Syracuse Youth Symphony
I would like to pass along information regarding the 2014-2015 season
of the Syracuse Youth Orchestras. The Syracuse Youth Orchestras
consist of the Syracuse Youth Orchestra (SYO) and the Syracuse Youth
String Orchestra (SYSO). These ensembles are part of the Community Music Division of the Setnor School of Music in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. The SYO is conducted by James Tapia and the SYSO is conducted by Karen Veverka. Students auditioning for the SYO must audition on a Level 5 or above NYSSMA solo and students auditioning for the SYSO must play a NYSSMA solo at a level 3 or above. The ensemble participants are middle and
high school students from Central New York. Performance opportunities
such as these help students grow musically and intellectually, and
develop skills such as discipline and teamwork that will benefit them throughout life.
Information regarding more specific audition requirements (auditions are in the beginning of June), tuition, and rehearsals can be found at the link below. If the link below is too lengthy, you may also tell students to visit vpa.syr.edu/music. Then click departments, click community music division, and click Syracuse Youth Orchestras. I encourage you to share this information with your students as it will surely be an outstanding musical experience. Please feel free to email me at email@example.com with any questions, or pass on my email address directly to your students. Thank you very much.
